History: The word "Moringa" is widely believed to be derived from the word "Murungai" in Tamil language. The plant is also locally referred as "Drumstick" plant in India primarily due to the pods that resembles a drumstick. Moringa Trees (Moringa Oleifera) are one of the most useful plants to the world. It is valued for its edible parts that are extremely high in nutrients and minerals. These full sun loving trees are very easy to grow and perform their best in USDA growing zones 9-11 outdoors and, on the patio, (potted) 4-8. Moringa Tree are fast growers maturing to a height of 25-35 feet tall and 15-25 feet wide.

Nutrients: Moringa is rich in nutrients and easy to grow in US. They are commonly referred as Miracle tree. Moringa contains 46 antioxidants, 18 amino acids & is a complete protein.  Moringa is native to the tropics and the subtropics; container growing will allow you to bring your tree inside for the winter. This plant is prized for its very high-protein leaves, its rich concentration of minerals and vitamins, and its heavy load of antioxidants! Leaves, blooms, seeds and immature seedpods, called “drumsticks”, are edible; seeds are source of a high-quality oil.

Growing Tips: 

  • Pre-soak seed in warm water 48 hours, rinsing often.
  • Do not crack open the seeds. Cracking the shell may damage kernels.
  • Moringa is a tropical plant and need humid conditions for germination.
  • Use seed starter mix as growing medium for seeds.
  • Sprouts promptly, blooms within 8 months. Overwinter container plants in frost-free conditions

-Pollination: Moringa Trees are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Moringa Tree will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Where to Grow: When planting Moringa Tree, find a location that offers full sun. This tree can adopt to a wide range of soil type as long as it drains well but prefers sandy loam or loam soil.

Watering (in the ground): Moringa trees do not need much watering, which allows them to thrive in very dry conditions. Water as needed for the first two months to keep the soil moist and afterwards only when the tree is visibly stressed.

Watering (potted): Water to keep the soil moist for the first 2 months and afterwards, water only when the soil is dry to the touch 2 inches down.

Fertilizing: Moringa trees don’t usually needs fertilizing. The grows well without it, but if the tree needs a little help, you can use a fertilizer high in phosphorus to help develop the root or high in nitrogen to help with leaf growth.

Pruning: Moringa tree will need to be pruned to help promote branching. As soon as the tree have at least two layers of branches, it’s time to start pruning.

    Why promote Monsanto/Dow Chemical companies like Miracle gro? Also producers of round up which cause a major endocrine and bee disruption. Love the seeds with organic fertilizer
